Competitor Scan

Scrapes 3-5 competitor pages on the same topic, compares their stance, and identifies content gaps plus differentiation angles.

Entry verified April 21, 2026

The short answer

The "why publish this?" check. Before writing on a competitive topic, the skill fetches the top-ranking pages, summarises what each one actually argues, and points out the angle none of them take — so you don't publish the sixth near-identical post.

When to use it

Before any new page in a competitive niche. Monthly on your top three competitors' recent posts to spot trends you should respond to.

Setup

  1. 1

    Save the file as ~/.claude/agents/competitor-scan.md.

  2. 2

Pair with a web fetch tool so the agent can pull each competitor page.

  3. 3

Feed: target query plus 3-5 competitor URLs.

  4. 4

Output is a per-competitor stance summary plus a shortlist of gaps worth claiming.

Example

You: Competitor scan on 'claude vs chatgpt' — top 3 results.
Claude: All 3 hedge on the verdict. None mention Claude Code. 2 have stale pricing. Gap: opinionated verdict + updated pricing + Claude Code angle.
